Public
MEHPublic transfer match: 1% on moved accounts
1% uncapped match when you transfer a brokerage account, IRA or 401(k) rollover to Public
Reality: Paid out monthly over 60 months, and withdrawals reduce what's left.
No end date posted
Paper math: $78 net after tax and the cost of tying up cash (lock cost 0%: transfers keep working).
Fine print in plain English
- Match is 1% of the transferred value, paid in monthly installments over 60 months, starting about a month after the transfer settles.
- Withdrawals, transfers out and other removals from your Public accounts reduce your remaining payments.
- Public says it will cover up to $100 of your old broker's transfer fee when the transfer is over $5,000.
- Some assets Public doesn't support can't be transferred. Your old broker may sell positions first.
- Public's transfer page says there's no retention period or clawback on payments you've already received.
Example: $10,000 moved = $100 match over 60 months. Lock cost set to 0% because transferred investments keep working.
Why we say MEH: It's a slow drip, so treat it as a small thank-you for a move you'd make anyway. Your old broker may charge an exit fee.
